Cheese & Tomato Quinoa Balls

Nutritious little balls made with protein-rich quinoa, melted cheddar, and tomato. Quinoa provides all 9 essential amino acids, making these a complete protein source. The ball shape is perfect for baby's palmar grasp.

Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup Quinoa
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil
  • 0.5 medium Onion
  • 0.25 teaspoon Garlic
  • 0.5 cup Chopped Tomatoes
  • 0.5 cup Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh Basil
  • 1 large Egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Rinse the quinoa thoroughly in a fine-mesh sieve under cold water.
  3. Heat olive oil in a small pan. Gently sauté the finely chopped onion and garlic until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the rinsed quinoa, chopped tomatoes, and water to the pan. Stir, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cover. Simmer for 15 minutes.
  5. Turn off heat and leave covered for 5 more minutes, then fluff with a fork.
  6. Stir in the shredded cheese and fresh basil while the quinoa is still warm.
  7. Let the mixture cool, then stir in the beaten egg.
  8. Form heaped tablespoon-sized balls and place on the prepared baking tray.
  9. Bake for 25 minutes until golden on the outside.
  10. Let cool before serving. For 6-month-olds, you can gently flatten or halve the balls for easier gripping.
