Warm Spiced Fruit Porridge

A comforting and naturally sweet breakfast that combines creamy oats with a soft, stewed fruit medley. This recipe is perfect for nine-month-olds as it introduces gentle spices and a lumpy texture that encourages chewing.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium Apple
  • 1 medium Pear
  • 3 large Dates
  • 1 handful Mixed Dried Fruit
  • 1 medium Orange
  • 1 pinch Ground Cinnamon
  • 1.5 teaspoons Vanilla Extract
  • 1 pinch Ground Nutmeg
  • 2 pieces Whole Cloves
  • 0.25 cup Rolled Oats
  • 1 cup Full-Fat Milk

Instructions

  1. Place the diced apple, pear, chopped dates, mixed dried fruit, orange juice, orange zest, cinnamon, nutmeg, and whole cloves into a small saucepan.
  2. Simmer the fruit mixture over low heat for about 20 minutes until everything is very soft and the liquid has thickened into a syrup.
  3. Carefully find and remove the 2 whole cloves from the fruit mixture and discard them.
  4. In a separate pot, combine the oats, full-fat milk, and vanilla extract.
  5. Cook the oats over medium-low heat for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently until the porridge is thick and creamy.
  6. Mash the cooked fruit with a fork to create a lumpy texture suitable for your baby's stage.
  7. Spoon the warm fruit compote over the creamy porridge and serve at a safe temperature.
