Polenta Fingers with Steamed Pear

Soft, golden polenta set into finger-shaped strips that are perfect for baby's palmar grasp. Served alongside gently steamed pear wedges for natural sweetness and vitamin C. Polenta is naturally gluten-free and provides B vitamins, iron, and fiber. A wonderful BLW breakfast that's easy to hold and gentle to gum.

Ingredients

  • 100 grams Instant Polenta
  • 400 ml Water
  • 1 large Ripe Pear
  • 1 teaspoon Unsalted Butter
  • 1 teaspoon Olive Oil

Instructions

  1. Bring the water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Add a tiny knob of butter.
  2. Slowly pour in the polenta while whisking constantly to avoid lumps.
  3. Reduce heat to low and cook for 3–5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the polenta is thick and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  4. Pour the cooked polenta onto a parchment-lined baking tray and spread to about 1.5cm (1/2 inch) thickness.
  5. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes until firm and set.
  6. Once set, cut into finger-length strips (about 6cm x 2cm).
  7. Optional: Lightly pan-fry the fingers in olive oil for 2 minutes per side for a golden crust.
  8. Meanwhile, peel and core the pear. Cut into wedge shapes. Steam for 6–8 minutes until very soft.
  9. Serve the polenta fingers alongside the steamed pear wedges.
