Polenta Fingers with Steamed Pear

Soft, golden polenta set into finger-shaped strips that are perfect for baby's palmar grasp. Served alongside gently steamed pear wedges for natural sweetness and vitamin C. Polenta is naturally gluten-free and provides B vitamins, iron, and fiber. A wonderful BLW breakfast that's easy to hold and gentle to gum.
Ingredients
- 100 grams Instant Polenta
- 400 ml Water
- 1 large Ripe Pear
- 1 teaspoon Unsalted Butter
- 1 teaspoon Olive Oil
Instructions
- Bring the water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Add a tiny knob of butter.
- Slowly pour in the polenta while whisking constantly to avoid lumps.
- Reduce heat to low and cook for 3–5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the polenta is thick and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Pour the cooked polenta onto a parchment-lined baking tray and spread to about 1.5cm (1/2 inch) thickness.
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes until firm and set.
- Once set, cut into finger-length strips (about 6cm x 2cm).
- Optional: Lightly pan-fry the fingers in olive oil for 2 minutes per side for a golden crust.
- Meanwhile, peel and core the pear. Cut into wedge shapes. Steam for 6–8 minutes until very soft.
- Serve the polenta fingers alongside the steamed pear wedges.
