Carrot & Parsnip Sticks with Cream Cheese Dip

Steamed root vegetable sticks served with a simple cream cheese dip. Carrots and parsnips become wonderfully soft when steamed, making them perfect first finger foods. Parsnips have a naturally sweet flavour that most babies love.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium Carrots
  • 1 medium Parsnip
  • 2 tablespoons Full-Fat Cream Cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Olive Oil
  • 1 pinch Sweet Paprika

Instructions

  1. Peel the carrots and parsnip. Cut into finger-length sticks, approximately the width of your index finger (thick enough for baby to grip with some sticking out above their fist).
  2. Place the vegetable sticks in a steamer basket over simmering water. Steam for 12–15 minutes until very tender — they should be soft enough to squash between your thumb and forefinger with very little resistance.
  3. While the vegetables steam, mix the cream cheese with a pinch of paprika if using.
  4. Remove vegetables from the steamer and allow to cool to room temperature.
  5. Serve the vegetable sticks on baby's tray or plate with the cream cheese dip on the side. Baby can pick up sticks and dip or you can spread a thin layer of cream cheese on each stick.
