Homemade Hummus with Soft Veggie Dippers

A protein-packed snack that is fun and interactive. Creamy chickpea hummus served with soft-steamed carrot and cucumber sticks, perfect for babies practicing their pincer grasp and dipping skills.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Chickpeas
- 1 tablespoon Tahini
- 1 medium Carrot
- 1 tablespoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Instructions
- Prepare the Dippers: Peel the carrot and cut into thick sticks (the size of an adult finger). Steam for 8-10 minutes until very soft. Cut the cucumber into similar sticks (remove the skin and watery seeds if necessary).
- Prepare the Hummus: Rinse the canned chickpeas thoroughly under cold water to remove excess sodium.
- In a food processor or blender, combine chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, olive oil, and cumin.
- Blend until smooth. If the hummus is too thick, add a tablespoon of warm water at a time until it reaches a creamy, scoopable consistency.
- Safety Check: Ensure there are no whole chickpeas left in the mixture; they must all be completely mashed or blended.
- Place a dollop of hummus in a small bowl and arrange the soft veggie sticks on the side.
- Encourage your baby to dip the veggies into the hummus or use their fingers to scoop it up.
