Black Bean & Cumin Mash

A simple, iron-rich mash of black beans seasoned with cumin and a squeeze of lime. One of the best plant-based sources of iron for babies at 6 months when stores from birth begin to deplete. Serve on toast strips or with vegetable sticks for a complete BLW meal.
Ingredients
- 0.5 cup Black Beans
- 1 pinch Ground Cumin
- 0.25 teaspoon Fresh Lime Juice
Instructions
- Drain and rinse the canned black beans thoroughly under running water to remove excess sodium.
- Place the beans in a bowl. Add the cumin and lime juice.
- Mash with a fork or blend in a food processor until smooth. Add water 1 tablespoon at a time if needed to reach desired consistency.
- For BLW serving: Spread the mash thickly onto toasted bread strips cut into finger-length pieces. Baby grips the toast and eats the bean mash off the top.
- Alternative: Serve alongside steamed vegetable sticks (sweet potato, carrot, or broccoli) for dipping.
- You can also pre-load a baby spoon with the mash for self-feeding practice.
